How COVID-19 is affecting IRCC: Visitors

From the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

We recognize that the travel restrictions will have an impact on many people who can’t travel to Canada right now. These restrictions stop most non-essential (discretionary) travel to Canada.

Due to the impacts of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we can’t

  • process applications normally
  • provide accurate processing times

So we can prioritize processing applications from people who are eligible to travel to Canada, we’re temporarily changing how you apply.

Even if you have a valid visitor visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA), you may not be able to travel at this time or be guaranteed entry to Canada. We continue to process applications, so you can be ready to travel when the restrictions are lifted.

Learn more about:

  • who is eligible to travel to Canada,
  • what you need to do if you’re eligible or not eligible to travel right now, and
  • what to do if you’re in Canada with a visitor status that is valid or expired.
